34. Ancient Fair Havens
Sail to Fair Havens, the quiet bay where Paul’s ship anchored on his fateful voyage to Rome (Acts 27:8-12). The serene waters and rugged coastline stand in contrast to the perilous storm that awaited him, reminding us of the uncertainties of life’s journey and the call to trust in God’s providence. This stop on Paul’s route invites us to reflect on how faith sustains us amid trials, guiding us safely to our ultimate destination.
Journey inland to Gortyn, an ancient city where Christian faith took root in a land steeped in myth and Roman rule. Among its ruins, the Roman Odeon and the legendary Plane Tree of Zeus tell a story of cultural transformation, where the Gospel gradually replaced old beliefs. The Christian heritage of Crete, shaped by Paul’s influence, reminds us that the message of Christ transcends time, tradition, and geography, calling all people to new life in Him.
