38. Tre Fontana Monastery
At the Monastery of Tre Fontane, we stand on sacred ground where Saint Paul was martyred for his faith. According to tradition, after his condemnation, Paul was led outside the city along the Via Laurentina, where he was beheaded under Emperor Nero’s persecution. Legend holds that his head bounced three times upon the ground, causing three springs to miraculously flow—giving the site its name, "Three Fountains." This place of sacrifice marks the culmination of Paul’s mission, a life poured out in unwavering dedication to Christ. His martyrdom reminds us that true hope is found in faithfulness, even unto death, and that his legacy continues to inspire believers to boldly proclaim the Gospel in every age.
